Natural Medicine: Homemade "it fixes everything" tonic
So - its sniffles season! There is nothing like the beginning of winter where everyone starts to get cold and rundown and colds spread through the office like a plague. I have been lucky enough to avoid any serious ailments as I have been sticking to lots of healthy foods lately so my immune system has decided to do what its supposed to. I recently decided to take precautions and make a huge batch of wellness tonic, for myself and my family.
This recipe was taught to me by a close friend of the family who was a real mentor to me in terms of natural medicine. He has a huge knowledge of herbs and natural remedies and this tonic is packed with all natural, healthy ingredients like: antibacterial chilli, soothing ginger and clarifying horseradish. I also have added turmeric root to the original recipe because its my favourite natural anti-inflammatory
.
Ingredients:
Cloudy Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
Equal Parts: White Onion, Grated Horseradish, Fresh Garlic, Fresh Ginger, Chillies (The hottest you can find)
Liberal Amounts of Turmeric
Get a very large preserve jar (mine was 2 litres) and fill up to 2/3-3/4 with the blended spices/vegetables. Top up to the very top with cider and close. Leave to settle in a shaded pantry for 1-2 weeks. Strain out the larger chunks and your tonic is ready to be used. Take a tablespoon a day when well, and 3 a day when sick. Not only does it keep your immune system going but it clears any congestion and heaviness out of your head if you do have a cold.
