Still a child at heart

So as I have mentioned in earlier posts I have been cooking with cabbage a lot lately, being the explorative person I am I decided to try something I had done quite a bit as a child, kitchen chemistry.

Now not only is this a really fun thing to do but its also very useful for determining the acidity of your foods and household products. Which can be an indicator of how harsh the chemicals are that you are using and consuming. Its really quick and easy and you can create the prettiest colours.

Basically, all you need to do is boil up some red cabbage and strain and keep the juices. Then just add whatever household liquids you want to see the acidity. If its highly acidic it will turn red in colour, if it is alkaline it will turn blue. I had so much fun experimenting with my different wines and cleaning products and at the end I had an adorable window display for a couple of days.
