My Rotorua Trip: Part 2

Last blog post I only got midway through recounting my Rotorua trip, and then on Monday I got an inner ear infection... and so my last few days have involved a very dizzy view of life and work. I also very naively decided it would be a good idea to watch a widescreen action movie with vertigo. The movie soon turned into audio only for me with my two big brothers shoulders sharing split custody of my head and my eyes closed tightly shut, feeling about as ill as a child reading at the back of a bus winding through the swiss alps with only stale air to breath. Funny aftward, but not at the time.

So... back to the trip

Luge-ing at Sunset

Was it the coldest time to luge? Yes but man was it a scenic ride. We decided to go late in the afternoon/early evening and it was a great decision. There is nothing like speeding down a mountainside while watching the lake and city of Rotorua bathed in scarlet light and gradually beginning to twinkle with the onset of the evening. So if you ever decide to luge, do it in the evening...

Early Morning Pedal-boating

The lake looked so haunted in the morning. Birds were everywhere, and there were hardly any people. The lake was still and everything was pale and vibrant at the same time. Some of the more unique buildings look so striking in the early light.

Hamilton Gardens

On the way back to Auckland my friend and I took a peek at the vibrant new extension of Hamilton Gardens. I love the bright doors, walls and bridges interspersed with lush tropical overgrowth. Its a real treat and a creative look to add to their wonderful themed gardens. I loved taking photos there.

So all in all the trip was full of gorgeous scenery with some really fun quirks and adventures. The perfect way to spend a long weekend.
