So recently I have been thinking about languages. I have started teaching myself Sinhalese as I am planning a Sri Lankan holiday in the next few months/year. I discovered their equivalent to hello means "may you live long and healthy" - isn't that a beautiful greeting (and slightly star trek-y). This inspired me to look into literal translations of greetings all around the world. Here are my favourites:
Namaste...
In Bhutan...
They ask: "Is your body well"
In Georgia, Europe...
They literally say "Let you win". This makes me wonder how they greet each other when having a disagreement.
In Taiwan...
The customary greeting literally translates to "Have you eaten yet". They sound like a whole nation of Mums.
