1) Put your air-con on a timer
You don't need to keep your air-con on all day - put it on a timer e.g. power on power off. This way you still stay cool but half the energy use (and half the power bill).
2) 24-26
Keep your air-con between 24 and 26 degrees. This allows your room to be at a live-able temperature while reducing energy usage. I don't know about you but I personally prefer around 25 degrees - any cooler makes me cold.
3) Closing Curtains in Direct Sunlight
Close your curtains from direct sunlight - this will prevent the room from warming rapidly.
4) Grow a plant
Grow a plant! Not only will shade plants prevent you from baking away in the heat they will also reduce your carbon foot print - two birds with one stone.
5) Open your windows at night
Unless its incredibly hot you wont need air-conditioning at bed time. Open your windows creating a cross breeze and this will keep you cool using no energy at all - as nature intended.
6) Solar Panels
If you simply can't live without your air-con I highly recommend looking into installing solar panels. Not only will you have a clear conscience regarding your energy usage but you will save money - you may even get money back if you are inputting enough into the grid.
So... now you know there are no excuses. Please make an effort to reduce your environmental footprint. xoxo
