My friends and I had big plans for the weekend and we were determined to not let the persistent rain get us down, and it didn't. We took the morning ferry to Waiheke and had had a ball: ziplining, hiking and tasting wine at the gorgeous cable winery. It was the perfect way to spend a chilly winter day.
Whether you are an Aucklander or travelling through on holiday, I highly recommend ziplining on Waiheke. Its a fun and exciting way to view the gorgeous bush and vineyards and its thrilling without being outstandingly challenging or scary. Eco-zip gives such quality service, they picked us up from the ferry and dropped us of where we wanted afterward. However, I was mostly excited about the guided bush walk they gave us following the zip lining. I was able to learn about the spiritual significance of native New Zealand plants and various herbs and berries used traditional food. It has inspired me to do some further learning in this area, so keep an eye out for foraging and NZ forest posts.
Following our rather rain drenched zip lining adventures we headed to the gorgeous Cable Bay winery and dined on some outstanding food and wine. I'm not normally a fan of modern architecture but I was really taken with the sleek and artsy interiors of the winery. Every curved ceiling and understated sculpture was a breathtaking work of art, and their huge glass doors allowed a panoramic view of the windswept shoreline.
My favourite of their wines was their chardonnay. I am not usually a white wine person but the flavour of this particular one was beautiful. It wasn't too sweet and the subtle oak aromas were a delicious way to warm up a chilly day.
I headed home after the wine tasting and had a very early night. Today mostly consisted of choirs and pottering round the house. I was very excited to get the latest issue of Peppermint they have an amazing raw cupcake recipe that I am dying to try and Lily Cole looks absolutely gorgeous, as per usual.
So now I am winding down with a glass of red, reflecting on my fun packed Saturday. What did you get up to this weekend?
